A CHINESE CANTON FAMILLE ROSE MEDALLION STICK STAND Antique Guangxu 1875-1908

Canton Famille Rose or Rose Medallion started to be produced in the 1800s for export to the west. It evolved from the Jingdezhen Famille Rose that was developed beforehand. The reason for this is their function as a stick stand, associated with the upper class. The walking stick, or cane was first used as a weapon.

Eventually it became a symbol of strength, power, authority, and social prestige. This piece could also be used as an umbrella stand nowadays. This has the gilding on it of earlier pieces that are considered higher quality. It is also a better quality piece than some.

Notice the tiles on the floor and the different colours on the clothing compared to the other one (see last photo) pictured. Large size among stick stands measuring 46cm tall and 21cm diameter approximately. Please research and calculate for your country.
