There is cracks chips and glued repairs. Please see pictures for condition. This plate was made for the export Canton market, during the late 18th century. The plate is octagonal in shape and well decorated in varying shades of cobalt blue, with a glaze of a very soft light blue/green shade.

The plate has a central hand-painted pattern of a man fishing in a lake-land setting, by a house and large overhanging tree with other trees and a verandah in the foreground, all set within a double blue circle and border pattern. On the outside of this central pattern there is a continuous inner rim border design with scrolls, flowers and other motifs. The under-glaze decoration has then been carefully hand-painted over glaze, with red, pink and peach colours with additional gilt highlighting. This is a very decorative plate. We date this piece to the late 18th century of the Qing dynasty, circa 1780.
